As soon as Luka Dončić’s shocking trade to the LA Lakers hit the headlines, former NBA player Chandler Parsons made an eye-catching claim on Run It Back. According to Parsons, Dončić had recently purchased a $15 million mansion in Dallas, only to be blindsided by the trade. Parsons even added that the Slovenian superstar “cried” upon hearing the news, believing he’d remain in Texas for the foreseeable future.
But was there any truth to this? Did Dončić really invest millions into a dream home in Dallas, only to be forced out days later?
Property Records Tell a Different Story
USA Today’s Andrew Joseph was quick to investigate Parsons’ claim, and what he found suggested otherwise. According to Joseph, official property records show no evidence that Dončić recently bought a new house.
“At least according to property records, Luka hasn’t purchased a house recently. Just the $3.7M home he bought in 2020,” Joseph tweeted.
If the Mavericks’ former franchise star had made such a massive real estate investment, it would have been reflected in the Multiple Listing Service (MLS), which updates instantly upon a sale closing. Joseph even cross-checked the Dallas-area home sales of $8M+ over the past four months, and nothing indicated any transaction tied to Dončić.
“MLS updates immediately, so I cross-checked the Dallas-area home sales of $8M+ over the past 4 months. Nothing tied to Luka. Also, ESPN’s article today said Luka was just starting to house hunt. Seems like Parsons had bad info in a game of telephone lol,” Joseph wrote.
With no official records to back up Parsons’ claim, it appears that the former NBA player may have received incorrect or exaggerated information before making the statement on air.
Fans Do Their Own Digging
Joseph wasn’t the only one skeptical of Parsons’ claim. Some curious NBA fans decided to look into the Dallas real estate market themselves. One Twitter user asked Joseph about the total number of homes for sale in the area, particularly in the high-end price range.
“Only like 12 closed recently of $8M+, so it didn’t take too long,” Joseph responded.
With so few multi-million dollar properties sold in recent months, it would have been easy to spot any transaction involving Dončić. Yet, no evidence surfaced.
Luka Dončić’s Emotional Goodbye to Dallas
Regardless of the real estate rumors, one thing is certain: Dončić didn’t want to leave Dallas without saying a heartfelt goodbye.
Despite the reported tension between him and the Mavericks front office, Dončić took to social media to express his appreciation for the city he called home for over six years.
“As I start the next part of my basketball journey, I am leaving a city that will always feel like a home away from home,” Dončić posted on X (formerly Twitter).
He concluded by calling Dallas a “special place” and showing gratitude for the “special fans” who supported him throughout his career.
What’s Next for Luka Dončić?
Now that he’s headed to Los Angeles, Dončić’s next big home purchase is likely to be in Southern California rather than Texas. The real estate market in Los Angeles is home to some of the most luxurious NBA cribs, from LeBron James’ Brentwood mansion to Anthony Davis’ Bel-Air estate.
